Our History
It all started a long time ago. We were a pathetic little country where viruses and other illnesses were spreading extremely fast. Every 2 years a new epidemic took over the country. Over the course of the years people started seeing that science was becoming a particularly important part of their Lives. After a few years, the elected government had no power anymore. The lives of the inhabitants of the country were dictated by sciences. The scientists had a lot of power, because thanks to them there were still people alive. There was one scientist in specific named Boris Von Plaeten, he was extremely popular among the citizens and everyone really valued his opinion. If there hadn’t been any scientist to create vaccines, there wouldn’t have been a country anymore. So, one day the scientists led by Boris decided to take over the country. They decided to bring down the democratically elected government and become the rulers of the country.
That is when Dorkmania was born. Boris and the others partly took over because they already had more power than the government, but the main reason was that they were sick of seeing the government give their funds to resources to keep the elderly people alive. Boris hated elderly people, he was so convincing in his hatred that soon everyone hated them. First, they were taking their funds, just to stay alive. Boris also thought that elderly people were the weak link in society. They were always the first to get ill when a new epidemic broke out and they were the first who needed a vaccine. That is why when the Boris and his colleagues took the power, they instated a new law and that was that there wouldn’t be any retirement homes and that the sick elderly 70+ would be eliminated from society as they no longer fulfilled a useful role and their care cost too much.
Because of this decision mercy killing and euthanasia became a customary practice. After the scientists took power, they decided to instate a technocracy. The country would invest all its funds in science. Science became the number one priority. People's lives are dictated by science and technology. Because a lot of funds went to sciences the number of pandemics decreased. But that could also be because people became scared of seeing other people. A lot of things are done online, like school, work, meetings… Because of all the scientific research the country became extraordinarily rich. Cures to certain illnesses and vaccines could be sent to other countries for a lot of money. One year after the scientist took power, the election for the first head scientist of Dorkmania took place. None other than Boris Von Plaeten was chosen to be the first head scientist.
Our DNA
Individualism is the way to go in Dorkmania. It is every man for himself, people are only concerned with themselves and the people closest to them. What other people need doesn’t really matter.
Besides individualism, health is also particularly important to the Dorkmanians. Because of the history of the country maintaining good health is a key factor. They are really concerned about the dangers of viruses and try to avoid them as much as possible. Therefore, they mainly interact with others virtually and keep their distance. You can also see the individualism in the way they treat elderly people. Elderly people are useless, so they need to go. This way the funds that would formerly go to taking care of elderly people can go to science.
Science is the most important thing in Dorkmania, it dictates everything. A consequence of this is that academics are also of high importance. Having an academic education is the most important thing, the level of your education dictates your value to the country.
Science always aims to innovate and improve the way things are, aka investing in the future. Therefore, we see Dorkmania as a futuristic country, a country that all other countries can see as an example.
Our mission
In a perfect world, we have improved science to the point where the lives of Dorkmanians are perfect. We don’t have to worry about getting sick, or if there is a new disease our people have confidence that we will be able to cure it quickly. Technology has improved, and will continue to improve, the daily lives of all Dorkmanians. In a perfect world, every single person can pull their own weight and contribute to science. On top of that, all our people are very well-educated so they can reach their maximum potential.
Our vision
We aspire to be a country with perfect inhabitants. Dorkmanians are people who don’t get sick and are academically schooled so that they can contribute to scientific research. Our people prioritise their own safety and well-being, and despise deadweights who can’t take care of themselves, so that we can ultimately improve science and move towards a perfectly structured, functioning society. We want all Dorkmanians to be educated so that they will also be able to contribute to research and science.
